Historical Hockey and Sports Memorabilia Auction February 2025
A product of the Toronto Marlboros in the Ontario Hockey Association that helped the club to a Memorial Cup in 1964, Pete Stemkowski would go on to a solid fourteen (14) year career in the National Hockey League with the likes of Toronto, Detroit, New York and Los Angeles, cementing himself as a useful and aggressive forward during that time. Winning a Stanley Cup with the Maple Leafs in 1967 and elected to the NHL All-Star Game in 1968, offered here is this stick used by Stemkowski during the 1967-68 season that has been team-signed by nineteen (19) members of that years Maple Leafs squad. A CCM Custom Pro twig with "Stemkowski" stamped over the upper shaft as well as what appears to be the smeared remains of a number stamp, the stick retains its original white tape job around the handle/knob while the black wrapping that was once around the blade has long since been removed and lost to time. Displaying heavy game-wear throughout via numerous dark marks and abrasions, including a number of dark marks concentrated over both sides of the lower shaft and blade, the stick is void of its striping accent sticker around the bottom of the shaft and has multiple cracks in the blade plus light wear to the underside. Signed by nineteen (19) over one side of the shaft in blue ballpoint pen ink, those that have signed include names such as HOFers Tim Horton, Johnny Bower, Allen Stanley and Marcel Pronovost while other signors include; Unger, Stemkowski, Ellis, Hillman, Naylor (trainer), Sly, Carlton, Pappin, Gamble, Oliver, Rupp, Walton, Haggert (trainer) and Conacher plus one (1) other. Appearing in good condition, all the signatures remain legible and readable.
