Historical Hockey and Sports Memorabilia Auction November 2024
The joyous Montreal Forum celebration at the conclusion of overtime in Game 5 of the 1953 Stanley Cup finals was immortalized by a photo of Maurice Richard embracing winning-goal scorer Elmer Lach, with the hero earning a ride on the shoulders of Butch Bouchard and the Rocket. Paul Masnick played in 53 games with the Habs in 1952-53 along with 6 playoff matches. He scored an important goal in Game 3 of the Stanley Cup finals vs Boston, which helped Montreal to a 3-0 victory and 2 games to 1 series lead. Originating from his collection, we offer Masnick's personal 1953 Stanley Cup championship trophy. The brilliant silver plated copper bowl resembling Lord Stanley's original trophy is engraved "National Hockey League Stanley Cup Winners - Season 1952-53" on one side, and "Club De Hockey Canadien Inc. – Paul Masnick” on the other. The trophy stands 5 1/2" tall and measures 8 3/4" in diameter across the mouth of the bowl. "Sheffield Reproduction", for the pattern/model, and "S.P. Copper" are stamped beneath the base. Beautifully preserved with the original grill cover intact, just some oxidation/tarnishing is visible throughout, with no dents, major scratches or damage. An LOA from Classic Auctions will accompany this highly desirable Stanley Cup trophy.
