Historical Hockey and Sports Memorabilia Auction November 2024
Playing his junior hockey in the Ontario Hockey League with the Toronto Marlboros and Kitchener Rangers, winning a Memorial Cup with the Rangers in 1982, Paul Higgins would be drafted 200th overall by the Toronto Maple Leafs at the 1980 NHL Entry Draft and go on to play a total of twenty-five (25) games with the Leafs over the course of both the 1981-82 and 1982-83 seasons. Offered here, we present this Maple Leafs jersey worn by Higgins during the 1982-83 campaign in which he suited up in twenty-two (22) games. Made by Maska, the remains of a Maska Ultrafil label are affixed to the inner collar while a washing instructions tag that displays a faded size "52" designation is found along the inner shoulder seam. Having had "Maska" embroidered into the reverse hem, the front of the jersey is decorated with a familiar Maple Leafs team crest that has had "Toronto Maple Leafs" embroidered into it. Having had matching Maple Leafs alternate logo crests placed atop of both shoulders, the sleeves and verso have been styled with Higgins' number "17" in either blue or white single layer tackle twill numbers. Having been stripped of the original "Higgins" nameplate that once graced the top of the reverse (evidence of its former placement as well as faint outlines of the letters spelling out "Higgins" can still be observed), the interior of the jersey showcases a customized fight strap as well as some pilling that is worth making mention of. Displaying with just overall light game-wear, heavy staining, possibly blood, can be found over the lower front and down the entirety of the left sleeve while the other white areas of the jersey also show discoloration and staining as well. Additionally, there is a board burn over the lower front, team repairs over the lower front and left sleeve and finally, a light stick mark plus a board burn over the right sleeve.
