Historical Hockey and Sports Memorabilia Auction June 2025
If you had to build a picture perfect hockey player, that player might just be Paul Coffey. One of
the greatest defensemen in NHL history, Coffee earned four Stanley Cups, three Norris
Trophies, and 1,531 career points—the second-most by a defenseman—during his illustrious
career.
This game-used stick from Coffey’s 1999-00 season exhibits light wear and still features
Coffey’s original tape job at the knob. “COFFEY 77” in factory print is located on the top half of
the shaft, while the “Handcrafted Exclusively for PAUL COFFEY” inscription appears on the
backside of the center of the shaft. The blade of the stick is bare, and Coffey’s large black
marker signature is displayed prominently on it. Though slightly faded, the signature remains
bold and well-preserved. Above his signature, Coffey wrote “BEST WISHES,” adding a personal
touch to this piece of memorabilia.
At the bottom of the shaft, “11-11-99” is written in black marker, dating the stick to November 11,
1999. On that night, the Carolina Hurricanes faced off against the Philadelphia Flyers, falling
4-1. The stick is likely to have been part of the action during that matchup. An LOA from Classic Auctions will accompany.
These sticks come from the personal collection of Lou Nolan, the legendary voice of the
Philadelphia Flyers. Nolan has been a fixture with the Flyers since the team’s inception in 1967,
starting as a press box assistant before becoming the team’s public address announcer in
1972—a role he’s held ever since. For over five decades, he has been calling plays for Flyers
hockey, his voice guiding us through some of the franchise’s most iconic moments. This of
course includes their back-to-back Stanley Cup victories in 1974 and 1975. These sticks,
personally gifted to Nolan by some of the NHL’s biggest legends, reflect the relationships he’s
built over his storied career and the trust and admiration he’s earned within the NHL community.
