Historical Hockey and Sports Memorabilia Auction June 2025
When the game was on the line and the stakes were higher than ever, one man stood in the
crease, staring down history and daring it to blink. Patrick Roy was one of the most clutch
players in sports history, winning three Conn Smythe trophies and playing best when it mattered
most. As the Canadiens faced an uphill battle in the 1992-93 season, counted out by critics
and bookmakers alike, Roy’s will carried Montreal to one of the most iconic Stanley Cup runs in
NHL history.
The stick you’re looking at? It was there during those moments. Covered in puck marks on the
paddle and blade, it shows the unmistakable signs of battle. “P ROY” is stamped on the shaft of
the shaft of the stick, and Roy’s signature appears across the shaft as well, boldly preserved in
blue marker. The original tape job, Roy’s personal touch, still clings to the knob and blade. A
faded stamp on the back of the shaft reads “DEC 23 1992” confirming this stick’s use during the
historic 1992-93 campaign. That season, Roy captured his second Conn Smythe Trophy as
playoff MVP, leading the Canadiens to their last Stanley Cup victory and solidifying his legacy as
one of the franchise’s greatest legends. An LOA from Classic Auctions will accompany.
These sticks come from the personal collection of Lou Nolan, the legendary voice of the
Philadelphia Flyers. Nolan has been a fixture with the Flyers since the team’s inception in 1967,
starting as a press box assistant before becoming the team’s public address announcer in
1972, a role he’s held ever since. For over five decades, he has been calling plays for Flyers
hockey, his voice guiding us through some of the franchise’s most iconic moments. This of
course includes their back-to-back Stanley Cup victories in 1974 and 1975. These sticks,
personally gifted to Nolan by some of the NHL’s biggest legends, reflect the relationships he’s
built over his storied career and the trust and admiration he’s earned within the NHL community.
