Historical Hockey and Sports Memorabilia Auction February 2025
Born in the UK but growing up in Newmarket, Ontario, Norman Mann signed with the Toronto Maple Leafs in the mid-1930s and dressed for a total of 31 NHL games throughout his career, with additional time in a few different leagues including the AHL. This NHL Standard Player's Contract signed by HOFers Frank Calder and Conn Smythe is drawn for the 1939-40 NHL season, where Mann was to earn $3500.00 (just over $72,000 in 2024 dollars) for playing in the NHL, but only $1,750.00 (just over $36,000 in 2024 dollars) if playing in the minors (Mann played the season in the AHL with Providence). Calder and Smythe have both signed in fountain pen, with the signatures displaying beautifully.
