Historical Hockey and Sports Memorabilia Auction Spring 2025
Acquiring centreman Nick Bonino before the start of the 2015-16 NHL campaign, the Pittsburgh Penguins finished the season with 104 points, with captain Sidney Crosby leading the team in scoring. The Pens would show their strength during the playoffs, knocking off both the President's Trophy-winning Washington Capitals and defending conference champion Tampa Bay Lightning, setting up a meeting in the Stanley Cup finals with the San Jose Sharks. The low scoring series would go six games, with Pittsburgh capturing the franchises fourth Stanley Cup, and second in just eight seasons. Bonino would play in all six games of the final, and would score the memorable winning goal in Game 1, on May 30, 2016.
This photo-matched Penguins jersey with Jersey Trak was worn by Nick Bonino in all three Penguins home games of the final, including Game 1 where scored the exciting game winner. Made by Reebok and featuring a lone size "58" label affixed to the inner collar, the crests of both the NHL and Reebok adorn the front and reverse necklines of the garment respectively. Decorated over the front of the jersey with Pittsburgh's familiar team crest that features embroidered details, the sleeves and verso have been styled with "13" in stacked tri-layer tackle twill numerals while "Bonino" in matching style letters is sewn to the affixed nameplate at the top of the reverse. The 2016 Stanley Cup Final patch resides over the right breast. A Penguins team tag is affixed to the inside hem, and it denotes the jersey as being a "Stanley Cup Finals Game Jersey". There is also a black marker signature to the inner fight strap from Pens equipment manager Dana Heinze, with the Jersey Trak chip inserted at the top of the fight strap.
Game-wear includes a few small marks beneath the front and reverse band, with faint board burns to the right sleeve. Getty Image #535939722 (Game 1 Stanley Cup Finals May 30, 2016) has been matched to a number of black marks on the lower front hem, while Getty Image #536216836 (Game 1 Stanley Cup Finals May 30, 2016) has been matched to the perfect matching placement of the number "13" on the left sleeve in correlation with the mesh pattern of the jersey in that area. Eight laminated photos of Bonino from the finals will be included, along with the Jersey Trak document which states that the jersey was worn in all three Pittsburgh home games, and a COA from the Penguins with the serial number "PH#16SCF588" that matches the team patch.
