Historical Hockey and Sports Memorabilia Auction February 2025
Rarely seen as most were discarded after their initial use, batting order cards are highly collectible as important ephemera linked directly to the game. We offer a very desirable collection of New York Yankees batting order cards totaling 9 and spanning from 1965 to 1977. Highlighted by four cards from 1965 featuring Mickey Mantle (batting 3rd in each, with his name crossed out in pencil on one card), these have all be signed by manager Johnny Keane, with other notable players listed to include Ford, Richardson, Howard, and Bauer. Next, we have two cards from manager Ralph Houk's tenure - with one dated 1970, while the other has the portions with the date torn away. Lastly, there are three cards from Billy Martin's time as skipper, with one dated 1977 with Thurman Munson batting 3rd and Reggie Jackson batting 4th, along with two partial cards that have been ripped in half with the top portions missing, showing the bottom five batters, which includes Bucky Dent, Lou Piniella and Graig Nettles. Each card shows wear from use including discolouration/staining, with one of the Mantle cards sporting a strip of tape on the reverse, and a second Mantle card has potions missing.
