Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Winter 2017
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 3/8/2017
Still considered one of the greatest teams in hockey history, the New York Islanders early-1980s dynasty heralded the HOF careers of a number of stars, including Mike Bossy, John Tonelli and Billy Smith. We have an impressive instant collection of game-used sticks totaling 13, all employed by stars from the New York Islanders. Each stick has the user’s name either stamped-on or in factory graphics (except Nystrom), with the majority retaining their original tape jobs on the blades and shafts. Each example (except the Tonelli, Merrick, Sutter and Nystrom) hails from the collection of Rick “The Stick” Elaschuk, with these examples signed and dedicated to Rick. Highlights include examples employed by Gillies, Potvin, Trottier and John Tonelli.
The full list of sticks available in this New York Islanders lot includes examples used by Bob Bourne, Clark Gillies, Wayne Merrick, Bob Nystrom, Denis Potvin, Brent Sutter, John Tonelli, Bryan Trottier, Paul Boutillier, Pat Flatley, Greg Gilbert, Kelly Hrudy and Tomas Jonsson. We should note that the Hrudy stick has a cracked blade along with damage to the paddle, while the Sutter stick also features a cracked blade. The Tonelli stick has also been signed, with John adding “Stanley Cup Champs 1980-83”.
