Historical Hockey and Sports Memorabilia Auction June 2025
The Montreal Maroons battled the Canadiens for the attention of the city’s hockey fans for a brief and passionate period in the 1920s and 1930s. The Maroons joined the NHL as an expansion team in 1924 and built the Montreal Forum for their home games, an arena so fine that the Canadiens soon made it their home rink too. Albert “Babe” Siebert was among the great Maroons players who went on to the Hall of Fame and his signed cut is among five (5) PSA/DNA certified authentic autographs featured in this lot of a dozen Maroons signatures in this lot along with a Maroons jersey. “Babe Siebert” reads the lovely blue fountain pen ink autograph the deceased HOFer placed on a 5 ½” x 4 ½” blank page that is clean and housed in a PSA plastic holder.
Russ Blinco (blue ballpoint with “Montreal Maroons 1932-1938 and Chicago Black Hawks 1938-1939” annotation on 3x5 blank index card), Archie Wilcox (who added “1981” to his black marker signature and “Montreal Maroons 1928 to 1934” annotation on a 3x5 blank index card, Herb Cain (black fountain pen on 2 ½” cut) and Stew Evans (black fountain pen on 3 ½” cut) autograph cuts are also PSA/DNA certified authentic autographs housed in plastic holders.
Baldy Northcott (3 ½” cut, black fountain pen signature) and Jimmy Ward (small black fountain pen signature below pasted scrapbook photo on 3 ½” x 2” cut) autograph cuts each come with a PSA/DNA LOA. Five more Maroons autograph cuts complete the lot including Carl P. Voss (blue ballpoint on 3” cut), Cy Wentworth (blue ballpoint on 5 ½” cut), Gus Marker (blue ballpoint on 5x3 blank index card), Roger Jenkins (black fountain pen on 3 ½” blank cut) and Bill Miller (3 ½” blank cut pasted on black backing). A burgundy Maroons jersey (70 percent acrylic, 30 percent wool indicated on inseam flag tag) with CCM flag tag in the neck and “Circa 1930” embroidered on the left front tail measures approximately a size 46.
