Historical Hockey and Sports Memorabilia Auction February 2025
A charter member of the National Hockey League that set up shop way beforehand in 1909, the Montreal Canadiens lay claim to the most Stanley Cup championships in NHL history with a total of twenty-four (24) and have had some of the best players in the history of the game to don their famed bleu, blanc et rouge. Offered here, we present this lot consisting of five (5) pairs of game-used and issued Canadiens gloves from the era of the mid-to-late-2000s as well as Patrice Brisebois' game-worn helmet from the early portion of the 2008-09 campaign. A mix of Easton, Warrior, RBK and Nike Bauer made gauntlets all found in Montreal's familiar red, white and blue colourway, the players represented include Andrei Markov (2009 NHL All-Star Game - game-issued - Easton), Sheldon Souray (2005-06/2006-07 - game-issued - Easton), Scott Gomez (2009-10 - game-used - Warrior) and Michael Ryder (2006-07 - game-used - Nike Bauer) plus a pair of RBK's that sport no identifiers or signs of use. In a range of sizes and all sporting player identifiers unless noted otherwise as well as various brand patches, logos and word marks, the gloves all show various signs of dirt staining throughout the group, heaviest on the Markov All-Star Game gloves, which have the event logo over both thumbs. All in overall good condition for their efforts, with the game-issued pairs showing no signs of game use (the Souray pair shows a hole in the right palm), the game-used pairs both show rubbing over each of the palms plus light stick marks and other abrasions. Finally, for the Brisebois helmet, also dirty but complete with all the padding on the interior as well as the strapping harness, a small part of the padding is missing/cut out while various decals, including those of the Canadiens, "Hockey Fights Cancer" and NHL shield, appear over the sides and lower reverse while Brisebois' "71" is found over the lower reverse as well in blue numerals. In overall good condition, the helmet shows use via various marks and abrasions throughout.
