Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Fall 2017
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 11/7/2017
With over a century of history, the Montreal Canadiens remain the most venerated and celebrated hockey team in existence. We have a wonderful collection of photos that all feature the Bleu Blanc Rouge, including 29 Bee Hives from the second (19) and third (10) series, 31 1945-54 Quaker Oats, 14 1943-47 Parade Sportives, 9 1950s/1960s Montreal team photos and a Bovril Richard/Geoffrion advertising card. There are also an additional 30 mixed photos ranging from roughly the late-1940s to late-1970s, including a few action shots. The Group 1 Bee Hives include The Rocket, Geoffrion, Beliveau, Plante and Harvey, while there’s Cournoyer, Ferguson and Hodge from Group 2. The Quaker Oats photos include Reardon, Bouchard and Blake, with 1943-44, 1944-45 and 1946-47 Habs team photos within the Parade Sportive offering. The majority of the Bee Hives remain in wonderful condition with just minor wear, but no obtrusive damage or unsightly creasing, while the Parade Sportive photos are mainly in mid-grade, with some minimal creasing, toning and light discolouration, with most having glue residue and paper loss on the reverse, most likely from prior scrapbook mounting. The Quaker Oats photos vary in condition, with the odd example showing light creasing along with surface wear and toning, with most examples having glue residue and paper loss on the reverse. The team photos display well, again with the odd example having some minor creasing and toning. We should also note that there is some minor duplication within the collection, but this is limited for the most part to the Quaker Oats photos. A few of the other “additional” photos have the player's name handwritten on the front, including examples of Toe Blake and Doug Harvey.
