Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Fall 2020

Winning consecutive Stanley Cup championships, the Montreal Canadiens were on top of the hockey world at the conclusion of the 1930-31 season, taking home Lord Stanley’s hardware on the strength of some of the greatest players in the game including Howie Morenz and George Hainsworth. Appropriating that fame, the National Breweries issued an advertising display to sell their Frontenac Export Ale featuring the 1930-31 Canadiens, and we offer a framed example. Featuring wonderful full-colour lithography, the entire Habs squad is lined-up, with facsimile signatures beneath. The photo was taken by Montreal lensman Rice, and sadly it has been heavily trimmed from its original dimensions of approx 13” x 30”, to its current size of roughly 7” x 30” (3 inches are missing along both the top and bottom sections). Set in a period frame with gold wash, the vintage photo still makes for an attractive display despite being trimmed down.
The print appears to show light to moderate wear, with heavier wear including a few blemishes to the frame.
