Historical Hockey and Sports Memorabilia Auction Spring 2025
A product of the Ontario Hockey League's Kingston Canadiens that was drafted 21st overall by the Philadelphia Flyers at the 1980 NHL Amateur Draft, Mike Stothers would go on to play a total of thirty (30) games in the National Hockey League with the likes of Philadelphia and Toronto while also suiting up in 671 career games in the AHL, winning a Calder Cup with the Maine Mariners in 1984. Going on to a successful coaching career after retiring from playing, winning Calder Cup's in 1998 and 2015, offered here is this Maple Leafs jersey worn by Stothers during his stint with the club during the 1987-88 season. Made by CCM and void of the neck tag that was once affixed to the inner collar, the jersey measures out to roughly a size "52" and has had a red-red-blue CCM logo embroidered into the reverse hem. Decorated over the front of the jersey with a Maple Leafs team crest that has had "Toronto Maple Leafs" embroidered into it, matching alternate logo crests have been sewn on over both shoulders in single layer blue twill. Retaining a customized fight strap on the interior and styled over the sleeves and verso with Stothers' number "25" in single layer twill numerals that are either blue or white in colour, "Stothers" is spelt out in single layer white twill letters across the affixed matching nameplate at the top of the reverse. Sporting light-to-moderate game-wear, some washed out stick marks appear over the left sleeve and front while a board burn is present over the area of the right elbow. Additionally, a team repair exists in the "2" on the reverse and good pilling is found on the interior. Of note, light spot/sweat stains can be seen in areas throughout the jersey and there are a trio of stitched team repairs underneath the nameplate which can be seen on the interior but there is no evidence of the jersey ever having another nameplate in place instead of the one currently applied and Stothers is the only one listed as having worn the number "25" during the year.
