Historical Hockey and Sports Memorabilia Auction February 2025
A four year veteran of the Ontario Hockey League who was drafted 161st overall by the Dallas Stars at the 2001 NHL Entry Draft, Mike Smith would tend the twine in a total of 670 National Hockey League contests with the likes of Dallas, Tampa Bay, Arizona, Calgary and Edmonton. Named to the NHL All-Star Game in both 2017 and 2018 and the eleventh goaltender in NHL history to score a goal, Smith would also win gold medals with Team Canada at the 2014 Winter Olympic Games and 2015 IIHF World Championships. Offered here, we present this Dallas Stars third jersey worn by Smith in a back-up role during the 2003-04 season, specifically on January 10th and January 23rd. Made by Koho and sporting a lone "Made in Canada/Goalie Style" label affixed to the inner collar, the once attached separate size "60" label has been ripped out while a Koho logo patch is in place over the reverse necklines. Having had the NHL shield embroidered into the reverse hem and retaining the fight strap on the interior, the front of the jersey is decorated with a Stars alternate logo crest that displays with embroidered details throughout its entirety. Styled over the sleeves and verso with Smith's number "30" in stacked tri-layer tackle twill numerals, "Smith" is spelt out in matching style letters across the affixed matching nameplate at the top of the reverse. Worn only in a back-up role and displaying in remarkable condition with no visible signs of wear, a MeiGray label numbered "B02836" is sewn inside the reverse hem, with the company's Population Report listing it as a "Third Set 2" example. A matching MeiGray LOA will accompany the piece.
