Historical Hockey and Sports Memorabilia Auction November 2024
Sure to pique the interest of all fans of the famed Montreal Canadiens as well as those that seek to add vintage lumber and/or signatures to their respective collections, offered here is this lot featuring sticks issued to Michel Larocque and Robert Picard during their time with the bleu, blanc et rouge that have been team-signed.
Starting with the Larocque example, a Canadien made example with "Larocque" stamped to the upper shaft that hails from the 1979-80 season, the stick has never been taped over either the knob/handle or blade while "Canadien" graphics appear over both sides of the paddle. Stamped "Made in Canada" on the underside of the lower shaft and still sporting intact rainbow accent stickers at the top and bottom of the shaft, the stick remains in good condition with some discoloration and other marks in areas throughout as well as slight wear to the bottom edge of the heel and accent stickers. For the autographs, the stick has been signed over one side of the shaft in blue ballpoint pen by the likes of; Guy Lafleur, Larry Robinson, Serge Savard, Bob Gainey, Doug Jarvis, Rejean Houle, Richard Sevigny, Pierre Mondou, Norm Dupont (only there in 1979-80), Yvon Lambert, Mark Napier and others, with most of the autographs legible though some are hard to make out.
For the Picard stick, a Koho made twig that dates from either the 1981-82 season or 1982-83 training camp, the stick has been heavily shaved down at the top of the handle and has had "Picard" stamped over the upper shaft. Having never had any tape wrapped around the handle/knob and blade while also retaining the red striped accent sticker at the bottom of the shaft, the graphics of the stick have been sanded off of the forehand side shaft, replaced with the signatures of players such as; Larry Robinson, Rod Langway, Jacques Laperriere (assistant coach), Rejean Houle, Doug Jarvis, Chris Nilan, Keith Acton, Pierre Mondou, Mark Napier, Brian Engblom, Mario Tremblay, Rick Wamsley, Robert Picard, Jeff Brubaker (only season was 1981-82) and others. All signed in blue ballpoint pen ink, the autographs still display well despite their age while the stick itself is also in good condition, with just light handling wear and marks observed throughout, mostly over the blade area.
Additionally, also included with the lot is a Russian made stick signed by approximately twenty-two (22) players of Soviet origin. All signed in black marker ink with most of the signatures showing bleeding, the stick remains in overall good condition and it appears as though the stick has been signed by what seems to be Andrei Khomutov, Viacheslav Fetisov, Sergei Mylnikov, Anatoli Semenov, Alexander Kozhevnikov, Alexei Gusarov and others.
