Historical Hockey and Sports Memorabilia Auction November 2024
A star in the National Hockey League after playing a lone season in the World Hockey Association with the Birmingham Bulls, Michel Goulet would go on to play a total of 1089 games over the course of his NHL career with the likes of the Quebec Nordiques and Chicago Blackhawks, recording eight (8) straight 30+ goal seasons between 1980-81 and 1987-88. Inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame in 1998, Goulet would answer the call of Team Canada on a trio of occasions throughout his career, representing his country at both the 1984 and 1987 Canada Cup tournaments and helping Canada to victory over the Soviet Union in 1987. Offered here, we present this Chicago Blackhawks "TBTC" jersey donned by Goulet in select games during the 1991-92 season. An Ultrafil material garment made by CCM, Maska and size "54" tags are affixed to the inner collar while both the CCM and NHL shield logos have been embroidered into the reverse hem as well. Based around the jerseys worn by Chicago circa 1940, the front of the barber pole striped offering is decorated with a vintage style Blackhawks team crest that has had the club's famed Indian head logo as well as "Chicago Black Hawks" embroidered into it while the NHL's 75th anniversary patch, worn throughout the year by all the leagues team's, has been added over the right breast. Styled over the reverse with Goulet's number "16" in dual layer white-over-red tackle twill numerals, "Goulet" is spelt out in single layer white twill letters across the affixed matching nameplate. Of note, research shows that this jersey hails from the second (2nd) set of Blackhawks TBTC jerseys that were found when the franchise was moving out of Chicago Stadium and into the United Center across the street. Likely only worn for one (1) or two (2) of the nineteen (19) games that Chicago wore these in, the set was sold out of the "Hawksquarters" team store in 1997 with Sports Registry barcodes added behind the numbers on the interior and accompanying Blackhawks LOA's. Displaying good game-wear despite only likely being worn in a couple of contests, stick marks, board burns and coloured paint transfers are found over the lower front, left sleeve and the reverse while very light thread fraying from use is seen around the seams of the sleeves and armpits. Furthermore, the jersey still sports its Sports Registry barcode on the inside and retains its fight strap, which has light salting in the snaps.
