Finishing his storied National Hockey League career with a total of 691 career wins to stand alone as the National Hockey League's all-time wins leader for goaltenders. Owning a trophy case that includes the Calder Memorial Trophy for 1994, three (3) Stanley Cup championships, four (4) Vezina Trophy's, five (5) William M. Jennings Trophy's and two (2) Olympic gold medals, Brodeur would be drafted 20th overall by the New Jersey Devils at the 1990 NHL Entry Draft from the QMJHL's St. Hyacinthe Lasers. Offered here, and originally hailing from the personal collection of noted NHL mask maker Ed Cubberly, who originally made the piece, is this mask worn by Brodeur as a member of the AHL's Utica Devils during the 1992-93 season. A custom offering made from a casting of Brodeur's face that was done on April 13th, 1992 and then delivered to him on May 13th, 1992 according to the accompanying LOA from Cubberly has has been signed by him, the mask, originally featuring a different paint and repainted in January of 1993 according to Cubberly, features his trademark “C” cut within each side of the mask while all the padding and strapping remains intact aside from a lone plastic snap over the right side of the jaw. Displaying a Devils themed paint scheme from an unknown artist over its entirety, including a large devil over the crown of the mask, all the original hardware is still present and accounted for while "Bro" is seen along the bottom edge of the reverse backplate. Displaying the remains of Cubberly's sticker label behind the right ear on the interior and a safety warning sticker in the same place on the other side, the mask shows wear via chipping to the edges all the way around as well as over the forehead as well while numerous other marks and abrasions are also present throughout the entirety of the piece. Additionally, large red coloured marks are observed over the top of the mask near the back edge and there is soiling to the padding and chin up on the interior. Still sporting the original sweatband on the interior and accompanied by Cubberly's signed LOA listing its provenance as well as a mask bag for transportation and storage, it should be noted that we were unable to find any photos of Brodeur wearing this particular design but many exist of Marty wearing it with its original paint scheme.
