Historical Hockey and Sports Memorabilia Auction June 2025
The oldest player to score a goal in the Stanley Cup Finals at age 43, Mark Recchi was drafted in 1988 by Pittsburgh and played 22 seasons in the world's fastest league. Skating for seven different teams throughout his lengthy tenure, Recchi started his career with Pittsburgh and later had a second three-season stint with the club beginning in 2005-06. This photo-matched Penguins alternate captain's jersey was worn by Recchi during his return to Pittsburgh, where he played in 63 games in 2005-06 before finishing out the season with Carolina (Recchi would be back with the Pens for the 2006-07 season). A label with “52” sizing is affixed to the collar, with Reebok and NHL crests placed over the reverse neckline and bottom hem respectively. Styled with the Penguins team crest in use from 2002 to 2016, the solid white V-neck features "8" in oversized and textured tackle twill sleeve and verso numerals, with “Recchi” over the affixed nameplate in matching material. There are also alternate crests to each shoulder. Game-use is shown in puck and stick marks over the front and reverse, with a few scuffs, scrapes, burn marks and some paint transfer to each sleeve. There is also a small slit on the left elbow, and some minor discolouration to the left shoulder. Getty Image #116934783 (January 11, 2006) has been matched to the horizontal stick mark on the right side of the jersey. Additionally, a pair of laminated photos of Recchi will accompany, with one showing the matching extended threads on the "8" on the left sleeve. The Set 1 team patch resides on the inside hem, with a laminated COA from the Penguins to accompany.
