Historical Hockey and Sports Memorabilia Auction June 2025
Currently number #3 on the NHL all-time points list, Mark Messier is one of the greatest players in history, with a pair of Hart Memorials, the Conn Smythe, sixteen All-Star selections and six Stanley Cup championships all on his resume. Originally presented to "The Moose", we offer a pair of plaques, including from his first NHL season in 1979-80, and from his time in the Alberta Junior Hockey League in 1976-77. The 1979-80 plaque is a tiered 7" x 9" rectangular wooden plaque with a pair of affixed metal plates with "Most Improved Player - Presented by The Edmonton Oilers Booster Club" and "Mark Messier 1979-80". The 1976-77 plaque is 7 1/4" x 9 1/2" and designed to appear like an unrolled scroll, with engraved metal plate with "Rookie of the Year - Spruce Grove Mets - Presented by Sir Arthur's - Mark Messier 1976-77". The Oilers plaque shows no condition issues, with the 1976-77 plaque sporting a few very small chips to the wood and a few minor scratches to the engraved plate.
Notes: Rookie season NHL plaque plus his Rookie of the Year award from the 1976-77 AJHL Spruce Grove Mets, his first junior team.
