Historical Hockey and Sports Memorabilia Auction June 2025
In 1984, Mario Lemieux stepped into the NHL and never looked back, immediately establishing
himself as one of the most dominant forces the league had ever seen. Towering over his
opponents, with a blend of size, finesse, and an almost otherworldly hockey IQ, Lemieux was
more than just a player—he was an artist on ice. Every shift was a masterclass in skill, with a
breathtaking display of effortless puck control by the late-1980s, he was rewriting the definition of
what a superstar could be in the NHL.
On this page, we are presenting to you a Koho game-used stick from the era that defined Mario
Lemieux’s dominance. The stick shows clear signs of action, with his original black tape job still
intact on both the knob and blade. “LEMIEUX” is stamped just below the knob and Mario’s bold
signature, presented at the bottom of the shaft, is in black marker and remains well-preserved. An LOA from Classic Auctions will accompany.
These sticks come from the personal collection of Lou Nolan, the legendary voice of the
Philadelphia Flyers. Nolan has been a fixture with the Flyers since the team’s inception in 1967,
starting as a press box assistant before becoming the team’s public address announcer in
1972—a role he’s held ever since. For over five decades, he has been calling plays for Flyers
hockey, his voice guiding us through some of the franchise’s most iconic moments. This of
course includes their back-to-back Stanley Cup victories in 1974 and 1975. These sticks,
personally gifted to Nolan by some of the NHL’s biggest legends, reflect the relationships he’s
built over his storied career and the trust and admiration he’s earned within the NHL community
