Historical Hockey and Sports Memorabilia Auction Spring 2025
A member of 8 Stanley Cup championships as both a player and executive, Marcel Pronovost won his first with Detroit in 1950, and his last as a scout for New Jersey in 2003. A high-flying physical player known as "Detroit's own Flying Frenchman", Pronovost during his career suffered a cracked vertebra, a broken jaw, two broken wrists, a separated shoulder and 14 broken noses, with over 200 stitches to repair wounds. The tough blueliner once remarked regarding hockey that "It's a game of men". From later in his career while a member of the Toronto Maple Leafs, we have a signed stick used by Pronovost during the mid-to-late-1960s, circa 1967-69. A CCM Custom Pro Pattern Made model with "Pronovost" stamped to the upper shaft and "3" handwritten, the original tape remains over the blade with a loose strand. Pronovost has signed the upper shaft twice and the blade once for a total of three signatures. There is also a pair of additional signatures on the blade and a name handwritten on both sides of the upper shaft. The stick shows light to moderate use with a chip at the heel and a crack visible beneath the blade tape. There is also a few marks to the shaft.
