A current NHL threat with a formidable line-up including superstar Patrik Laine, the Winnipeg Jets finished second overall at the conclusion of the 2017-18 season, progressing to the Conference finals during the playoffs. Hailing from the successful WHA days of the Jets where they were crowned with the most Avco Cup-wins, we have an example of the desirable award, with this Avco Cup trophy presented to the Executive Director of Business Operations Marc Cloutier for the Jets 1979 WHA championship. At just under 13” and featuring a slightly tiered silver base with mounted trophy cup and inserted detailed globe, engraved plaques grace the front including the lower example that lists Cloutier along with “Winnipeg Jets”. The reverse contains an additional plaque listing the full team, with “Presented to the Winnipeg Jets World Champions 1978-79”. Accompanying the trophy, we have a presentation plaque, 1978-79 framed team photo, 1972-73 blue Biltrite WHA game puck, 1978-79 Biltrite Jets game puck and a circa early-1980s Viceroy Jets souvenir puck.
Some tarnishing and patination has occurred to the silver components, with scratches and general wear over each of the engraved plaques. There are also scratches to the bowl along with some surface loss along the base. A sticker remains intact from make Balfour along the underside. The accompanying wooden plaque with beveled edges is approx. 13” x 17” and feature’s a chased metal frame with engraved metal plate with text thanking Cloutier for his service to the club, dated “April 3rd 1981”. The team photo is 11” x 14” and set in a cheap frame, with all the players handwritten over the reverse. The photo shows heavy wear, with large surface scratches including a few small spots of material loss. The 1972-73 blue Biltrite puck has a few tiny white blemishes, while the 1978-79 InGlasCo game puck has a white blemish along the side, with wear to the logos over both sides. Finally, the 1980s souvenir puck remains in excellent condition, with just light handling wear.
