Historical Hockey and Sports Memorabilia Auction February 2025
A product of Cape Breton in the Q and sitting 2nd all-time in career wins by a goaltender, Marc-Andre Fleury has played twenty (20) seasons in the National Hockey League and has won a trio of Stanley Cups with the Penguins in 2009, 2016 and 2017 as well as both the Vezina Trophy and Jennings Trophy in 2021 with the Vegas Golden Knights. Having gone on to also wear the colours of the Chicago Blackhawks and Minnesota Wild, offered here is this blocker and glove set worn by Fleury as a member of the Wild during the 2022-23 season. Both True model L20.2 model gloves that have had "Fleury" identifiers embroidered into them via red thread, both pieces of equipment are done up in Minnesota's familiar red, white and green colours while Fleury's flair comes out through the largely gold coloured base that is seen over both pieces. Sporting a green lace pocket and displaying True logos over the face of each piece, both gloves show moderate-to-heavy wear via puck marks and paint transfers from posts as well as some some material loss/small rips and tears, fraying/rubbing around the edges and sweat staining. Additionally, the blocker palm free of any holes. With all the strapping and lacing in good condition and fully functional, Fleury has signed over the front of both pieces with large black marker ink signatures that display without issue. Regarding the photo-matches, the gloves have been matched with Getty Image #1244280583 (October 27th, 2022 vs Ottawa) to numerous puck marks seen over each piece as well as to the small white coloured skate cut near the tip of the red section in the glove towards the pocket.
Additionally, also included with the gloves is a Minnesota Wild commemorative jersey made up in the style worn by the Wild during warm-ups for Fleury's 1000th career game. An Adidas made offering displaying a size "52" designation affixed to the inner collar, the front is decorated with a Wild team crest while Fleury's number "29" appears over the sleeves and verso in special style numerals that sport a floral design in them. Also displaying commemorative patches over the shoulders for "1000 NHL Games" and "552 Career Wins", the jersey, a replica non-game offering that has a fight strap on the interior, has been signed by Fleury through the "9" on the reverse with a black marker ink signature that displays without issue despite it being black on a fairly dark background.
