Historical Hockey and Sports Memorabilia Auction Fall 2022
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 9/20/2022
Beginning life in 1908 in Ontario, St Mary’s first manufactured one-piece hockey sticks, with the company noteworthy as one of the first to offer modern-style paddle goal sticks. Later branching off into baseball bats, by the 1950s St Mary’s was producing noteworthy player models including Mickey Mantle, Eddie Mathews, Duke Snider, Stan Musial and Ted Williams. Hailing from the 1933 to 1940s labeling period according to online information, and contemporary to his playing days, we offer an extremely rare Ted Williams Major League model bat. At 35” in length and featuring an attractive screened center brand in script, the mid-barrel is stamped “St Mary’s Ted Williams Model” in block letters, with “Major League” in script stamped to the end of the barrel (both the “Ted Williams” and “Major League” stampings are somewhat hard to make out). “35” is stamped to the intact knob, with the bat showing good use with minor weathering at the very tip of the barrel, with no cracks or obtrusive damage/marks. A quick online search could only locate one example of this bat… with zero specimens on marketplaces like eBay.
