Historical Hockey and Sports Memorabilia Auction Fall 2022
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 9/21/2022
The first division title for the club, topping the AL East, and occurring in it’s ninth MLB season, the Toronto Blue Jays won a record 99 games in 1985, and despite sporting the second-best record in major league baseball, the Jays were defeated by Kansas City in the American League Championship Series. Believed to have been originally displayed at Exhibition Stadium (a photo of the score board appears to show a flag over the right that matches, but the image is not clear enough to call a definite match), we offer a 1985 Toronto Blue Jays East Division Champions pennant banner. The blue nylon banner with red and white accents is designed like a typical flag and pennant-shaped, with the left side approx 52” from top to bottom, 116” in total length, and 25” from top to bottom over the right side. The text is in three horizontal rows in sewn white tackle twill letters, including “Toronto Blue Jays” (first line), “1985 American League” (middle row) and “East Division Champions” (third row). A label from NYL-GLO Bunting is affixed to the underside. Exhibiting wear commensurate with it’s former use, there is some minor dirt staining to the pennant, with the ends over the right side showing a bit of fraying to the material including a few tears.
