Historical Hockey and Sports Memorabilia Auction Fall 2022
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 9/20/2022
With NHL talent being used by national teams at the Olympics for the first time in 1998, Team Canada were the heavy favourites but ended up bowing out to the Czech Republic in a semi-final shootout loss. Roman Hamrlik and the Czechs would go on to defeat the Russian’s 1-0 in the gold medal game. Hailing from those historic Olympics is this stick used by Roman Hamrlik. A KOHO Revolution model with tape still at the handle and knob, a handwritten “Hamrlik” identifier in black marker is seen on the shaft as well as a Japan Airlines security check sticker. Void of tape on the blade, the heel has a crack on the bottom while puck marks are found on the lower shaft and toe area of the blade. Additionally, the stick has been signed by the members of Team Canada. With the shaft painted white to make the signatures appear easier, 22 signatures are found on the backside of the shaft with 2 on the blade including: Lindros, Brodeur, Bourque, Foote, Yzerman, Gretzky, Joseph, Stevens, Blake, Desjardins, Brind’Amour, Roy, Nieuwendyk, MacInnis, Shanahan, Linden, Pronger, Sakic, Corson, Primeau, Fleury and Zamuner. Most of the signatures display without issue with some fading found to those near the top of the shaft. Also included is a Czech Republic hat that has been signed on the brim in black marker by Wayne Gretzky. The signature displays without issue.
