Historical Hockey and Sports Memorabilia Auction Fall 2022
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 9/20/2022
Earning the ever-popular "Babe" moniker during his playing days, Edward Butka was a first-baseman with the Washington Senators in 1943 and 1944. Featuring the signature of legendary HOF pitcher and manager Clark Griffith, we have Butka's 1945 Senators contract. An AL standard Uniform Player's Contract dated "Apr 30 1945", a salary of $3500.00 is listed for the season (just over $56,000.00 in 2022 dollars), with no bonuses or addendum items mentioned. Butka has signed in blue ballpoint, Griffith in fountain pen, with the signatures displaying well. The contract itself sports heavy toning along with the original fold lines (there is wear and discolouration at the fold lines).
