To one Maple Leaf aficionado to another will go this impressive years-in-the-making stash of encapsulated cardboard that spans four decades. All 138 cards from the 1980s are slabbed GEM MT 10 by PSA, while all but six of 189 from ’69-70 to ’79-80 are housed in holders labeled MINT 9. Parkhurst representatives from the ‘60s total 29, with 27 of them graded NM-MT 8 – talk about splendid uniform condition! There is a complete 18-card team set from ’62-63, all at NM-MT 8, the same as card #1-Allan Stanley from ’63-64. Most notable among 18 entries from the ‘50s are a ’55-56 Parkhurst Quaker Oats 79-Maple Leafs Gardens card at EX-MT 6, ’57-58 RCs of Bobby Baun and Gerry James at NM 7 and a ’59-60 23-Tim Horton at NM-MT 8. A swell way to lead things off chronologically is Punch Imlach’s ’51-52 QSHL Quebec Aces coach’s card, slabbed VG-EX 4, while Terry Sawchuk’s ’70-71 OPC memorial card, at MINT 9, is also noteworthy. Leaf greats Duff, Bower, Armstrong, Kelly, Keon, Sittler, Ellis, Ullman, Plante, Henderson and others also contribute, with more details available on our website. This is one intriguing, peerless hoard!
We’ll detail the 1950s here, with four cards from ’53-54 being 7-Kennedy (PR 1), 16-Solinger (EX 5), 17-Migay (NM 7) and 30-Sloan (Lucky Premium Back)(EX-MT 6). One lone ’54-55 card is 93-Netminder’s Nightmare at VG 3, while there are four from ’55-56; 18-Duff RC (VG-EX 4), 28-Apps ATG (EX-MT 6 (ST)), 74-Beliveau Bats Puck (VG-EX 4) and 79-Maple Leaf Gardens (PR-FR 1). Joining the James and Baun RCs from ’57-58 are 11-Morrison (NM 7) and 22-Barry Cullen Scored (EX 5). From ’58-59 is 14-Stewart at NM 7, with an EX 5 21-Baun from ’59-60 and two ’60-61 cards; 12-Duff (NM 7) and 16-Stanley (EX 5). A trio of ’61-62 Parkies merited NM-MT 8 recognition; 3-Bower, 7-Shack and 14-Hillman. Also at NM-MT 8 are six cards from ’63-64; the aforementioned 1-Stanley, as well as 5-Bower, 14-Stewart, 20-Clancy, 71-Harris and 79-Imlach. One lone Topps card, a ’64-65 Tall Boy of Red Kelly, is a NM-MT 8. O-Pee-Chee cards from ’68-69 total five and all earned marks of NM-MT 8; 126-Ellis, 194-Oliver, 196-Sutherland, 197-Gamble and 198-Keon. Then begins the wonderful slew of MINT 9s and GEM MT 10s which includes team cards, league leader, team leader and rookie cards, with the list below.
