Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Fall 2018

The most valuable NHL franchise after the New York Rangers according to Forbes, the Toronto Maple Leafs can claim the greatest number of players inducted within the HOF. 75 previous individuals including 62 players who were honoured to wear the blue and white, are currently members. We have a late-1950s Maple Leafs wool sweater offered. Obtained from a collector in Saskatchewan, the sweater was likely recycled to a team on the Canadian prairies, with clear evidence of a former "R" team logo over the chest, with just the partial “2” of “26” over verso remaining, with the outline completely visible including the zig-zag sewing pattern. A correct period Leafs team crest matching in both style and construction has been restored, with the three-eyelet configuration on tie-neck construction utilized on our example worn by Toronto from approx. 1957-58 to 1959-60. Ideal for those seeking a vintage Maple Leafs wool, without having to drop a bundle.
Void of any labeling and measuring-out to roughly a modern size 42, a detailed thick felt Maple Leafs team crest with appliqued white letters is featured, with the aforementioned partial “26” over verso in single blue twill. Blue shoulder bands with matching collar have been utilized, with dual striping bands over both the sleeves and waist. Witnessing prolonged use, the vintage wool exhibits heavy wear including a few well-sized holes directly beneath the team crest, with additional large examples covering each lower sleeve. There is also a tear to the collar, with both large and small team repairs throughout. Gary Aldcorn wore the #26 sweater for the Leafs in 1957-58, Allan Stanley in 1958-59 and 1959-60 (wearing the "A" for most of those 2 seasons), with the jersey not necessarily worn by either of those players.
