Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Fall 2018

Despite lacrosse being classified as a demonstration sport at the 1928 Olympic Games, the New Westminster Salmonbellies – enshrined in the Canadian Lacrosse Hall of Fame - won the right to represent Canada after securing their 10th Mann Cup in 1927. The trip to Amsterdam would be successful, with the Canadians winning gold along with the US and England, with the three nations finishing in a three-way tie. We have a vintage lacrosse stick that has been signed and annotated by Canadian captain Leo Gregory, a member of the Canadian Lacrosse Hall of Fame. Manufactured by “Lally’s” with “Special” and “Cornwall Canada” stamped-on (Lacrosse player Frank Lally retired from the game in 1889, opening his lacrosse stick factory in Cornwall in 1893), the 52” vintage stick appears to have the original lacing intact, with black hockey stick tape added in two sections. Tremendous use is exhibited, with wear to the pocket and rim including some minor splintering, with the bottom of the handle completely worn. Gregory has signed the stick near the manufacturer's stampings, with the full text stating “Leo Gregory Capt Canadian Olympic Team 1928". To locate ANY items with immense historical importance to the sport is almost impossible, with the offered stick a true prize of Canadiana.
