A good start indeed to a 1937-38 O-Pee-Chee set, highlighted by members of Toronto’s star-studded teams of the 1930s, who are joined by their Montreal Canadiens and Maroons counterparts in the all-Canadian-team issue. Although no high grade examples are present, we consider the group to be an attractive lower grade assembly and acceptable to many/most collectors of pre-war material, with very few heavily creased or real unsightly cards present. Not present is the key Toe Blake RC, as well as biggies Broda and Joliat, with the Leafs Charlie Conacher leading the lineup. We count 26 cards with G to VG appearances, with however a dozen exhibiting subtle back damage, namely very light staining from once having been held in a photo album by those black “triangles” popular decades ago. The Conacher and the Gordie Drillon RC (both otherwise VG) are among them, with the Drillon – he led the NHL in goals and won the scoring title in '37-38 - additionally displaying a small ink mark on the front. Other notables are 134-Horner (G (ST)), 141-Apps (F) and 150-Siebert (VG (ST)), while 139-Busher Jackson is one of four Poor cards, with glue/paper loss on the reverse. Seven Fair examples are also in the mix, with a duplicate of 161-Beveridge (F). Cards with blue “frames” and facsimile autographs outnumber purple entries 28 to 11. Fascinating relics were pulled from packs some 80 years ago and cost but a penny apiece. Seven others needed for completion are 146-Armstrong, 151-MacKenzie, 157-Brown, 158-Drouin, 168-Trottier, 175-Voss and 177-Mondou.
