Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Fall 2018
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 11/6/2018
Traditionally the greatest hockey nations, Canada and Russia have competed for supremacy since the famous Summit Series in 1972, with any clash between the countries a noteworthy event. We have a large collection of Canada/Russia items, including specimens celebrating the Summit Series. First, we have four programs, with two from 1972 and two from 1974, followed by a pair of Summit Series pennants including the 29” full size, along the mini-pennant given to players before the games in Moscow. This is followed by a souvenir puck from the 1972 contest in Winnipeg (Sept 6th), Russian programs from both 1972 and 1974 along with a pamphlet and sticker from ’74, a small 1994 receipt signed by Ken Dryden, Russian postcards, a 1972 Team Canada poster (24” x 36”), a CCCP jersey signed by Summit Series leading Russian scorer Alexander Yakushev, a multi-signed 1976 program, a Ken Dryden-signed 1981 Canada Cup program (with JSA) and more!
Rounding out this neat Canada/Russia lot we have a 1981 Canada Cup program issued by the Toronto Star with Gretzky cover, a postcard signed by Vladislav Tretiak, 2 1974 schedules, 46 1972 postcards, 184 1974 postcards and a pair of full newspapers featuring the Summit Series. The 1972 and 1974 programs along with the Russian-language program and pamphlet all show moderate to heavier wear, with one 1972 program exhibiting staining and toning and one 1974 program showing water damage, with the 1974 Russian program having a large vertical crease along with toning and edge wear. The full size 1972 pennant has some fading and toning, while the 1972 player-pennant has some discolouration along with a rough top border. Next, the 1972 poster has heavy wear with toning, creasing, edge tears and pinholes, with the Yakushev-signed CCP jersey (2XL) in gorgeous condition with no issues for the signature. The Dryden-signed 1981 program has been signed on the cover in ballpoint, with the signature displaying well, with the 1976 program showing a few large creases, signed on the cover by approx. 14 in ballpoint including Orr and Mikita. Lastly, the 1981 Canada Cup Toronto Star newsprint program has moderate toning, while the 27 Russian postcards all show moderate wear, with both Tretiak and Kharlamov included.
