Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Fall 2018

From a Wayne Gretzky and blue border-loving astute hoarder comes this opportunity to secure over three thousand 1979-80 O-Pee-Chee cards, highlighted of course by eight rookie cards of the young man who would go on to eventually be known as The Great One. Before we give you the lowdown on the Gretz rookies, we can tell you that while checking out the different groups of star/key/rookie cards, we observe a majority of EX to NM grades, with intermittent creased/VG-or-lesser cards also in the mix. Checklists and team checklists are not marked, with the notable Oilers logo/checklist card EX-or-better in all instances. The Gretzky RCs meanwhile, do not mirror the rest, with the only crease-free representative featuring a slight diamond-cut and badly off-centered, with barely a little blue to the left of Wayne’s image and otherwise EX. Two VGs are next, with less-than-perfect centering, while a similarly-looking example is affected by two tiny tears in the right edge and evidence of touch-ups with a blue marker. A multi-creased F entry is then joined by three other low grade (P) cards; two have the aforementioned blue highlighter/magic marker additions, with one of them scuffed in “Edmonton”, while the last is admittedly hammered with a hole near the top edge. All sorts of possibilities here, with eight each of Gordie Howe and Bobby Hull’s last NHL cards from their playing days, Mike Bossy’s second-year card and an assortment of rookie and other star cards, all adding up to eight complete sets.
