Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Fall 2018
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 11/6/2018
Groovy display items here each once housed two or three or four dozen packs of collectibles and are dominated by World Hockey Association boxes, the earliest picturing a smiling Gordie Howe. WHA mini posters from 1973-74 curiously did not feature the photos on the (36-count) box, with Guy Trottier and Bobby Hull also appearing. Also curious is Tony Esposito’s likeness on a '74-75 WHA box, joined by a similar-size (48-count) job from '76-77. Completing the WHA lineup is a box from '77-78 when packs increased to 15 cents each. NHL O-Pee-Chee card boxes are from '75-76 (10-cent packs) and '77-78 (15-cent packs), both of them 48-count affairs. Oldest is a '71-72 Topps box that featured 24 dime packs, while concluding is a '76-77 Topps box (36-count, 15-cent packs), the latter shrink-wrapped, similar to the '73-74 WHA poster box. All others are neatly wrapped in plastic. Other than slight fading to three, they’ve aged well and bring forth a desire to travel back in time!
As for condition details, no real unsightly issues are to mention, with creasing to the die-cut Red Wings uniform-wearing player on the '71-72 Topps box, three additional pieces of scotch tape on three edges of the '77-78 OPC box and “77-78 WHA” written in pen on the front panel of the '77-78 WHA box. A crease here and there is also spotted, along with light corner wear, but again, nothing too unattractive – this collection is cool!
