Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Fall 2018
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 11/6/2018
One of early hockey’s most famous and fabled clubs, the Renfrew Creamery Kings – also known as the Millionaires for the large contemporary salaries bestowed upon players – can boast a number of iconic and historic HOF names including Cyclone Taylor, Newsy Lalonde and Lester Patrick. We have a Renfrew Millionaires reunion program from 1958, with the program signed by eight including the team’s three aforementioned iconic superstars. At approx. 6” x 9”, the simple fold-over affair feature’s a black and white team photo of the 1909-10 squad along with the banquet’s date of “Wednesday, August 13th”, with the menu placed over the two interior pages. All eight have signed over the reverse in ballpoint in a single column including Taylor, Lalonde and Patrick, with no issues for the highly desirable signatures.
We should note that the program originates from our consignors mother, who was in charge or running the banquet, with the program remaining in their family the past century. The full list of signers includes in order; Muzz Patrick, Robert Bud Simpson? (Flin Flon Bombers 1935-47, Manitoba HHOF member), Jack Humphreys? (Rangers scout), unknown - possibly Herb Jordan? (played for Millionaires), Lester Patrick (deceased 1960), Clarence Campbell (HOFer deceased 1984), Cyclone Taylor (deceased 1979) and Newsy Lalonde (deceased 1971). The program itself exhibits edge and corner wear with a tiny bit of surface loss in spots along with small creases along the spine, with a large horizontal fold line running across the middle that runs through the entire program. As an added bonus, also included, we have 5 1 ½” x 3” table setting name tags kept from the event, with examples for Patrick and Campbell, along with Bert Lindsay (Renfrew netminder), Herb Jordan and J.A. Maloney. Addendum; it has now been confirmed that it is indeed the signature of Herb Jordan on the program.
