Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Fall 2018
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 11/6/2018
Our sometimes used "what a joy to hold and behold" sure holds true here, with pursuers of the nicest hockey cards in the world surely paying attention to this exquisite example of Toe Blake's 1958-59 Parkhurst card. The #9 eye-popper is of course a PSA chart-topper, with just one other similar Blake card also earning seldom heard of GEM MT 10 recognition. The whiteness, the brightness, the registration, the smooth edges and the sharp corners are riveting while contemplating Blake's hockey legacy. After his Hall of Fame playing career with the Maroons and Canadiens, Toe was in his fourth season as coach of the record-setting Habs, the club breaking Toronto's mark with their fourth straight Stanley Cup title the season that cards like this were discovered in Parkhurst packs. PSA statistics indicate that, as of this writing, 99 such Blake cards have been slabbed in company history, with just seven making it to Mint 9, while just 26 GEM MT 10s are in existence (all players/cards combined - over 5800 Parkies from '58-59!). Lovers of high grade material, this gem is for you.
