Eclectic grouping of three sports trophies features two hockey awards and another from the early-1950s that is most likely a boxing trophy. The oldest and most substantial of the three trophies is the 1936-37 Marshall Cup. Presented for two seasons to the champions of the “North Dufferin Hockey League”, it stands a majestic 21” tall and has acquired a magnificent patina. Also included is a Kansas City Blues Rookie of the Year Trophy. Awarded to three recipients from 1969-72, it stands 12 1/2" tall. Rounding out the lot is a 1951 “Combat du Siecle” (Bout of the Century) trophy that is missing its base and now stands about 9” tall.
“Marshall Cup” is engraved on the front of the top portion of the two-handled cup, which has “Emblematic North Dufferin Hockey League Championship for Annual Competition, Donated by D.M. “Mac” Marshall” engraved in the middle below the image of a hockey player. The cup stands just over 15” tall atop its 5 1/2" round metal base, which has two victory shields for “Whitfield 1936” and “Whitfield 1937” each attached with two screws.
The Kansas City Blues Rookie of the Year trophy features a two-handled cup that has acquired a wonderful patina. “Kansas City Blues Rookie of the Year Presented in Memory of Robert L. Burger by the K.C. Blues Booster Club” is engraved on the front of the two-handled bowl that has a removable metal liner. The cup sits atop a 2 3/4" tall wood base, which has most of the black paint scraped off along the bottom edge. The names of three recipients, “1969-70 Jaroslav Jirik, 1970-71 Gordon Brooks, 1971-72 Murray Keogan”, are engraved on the metal plaque attached to the front of the wood base with two small screws.
The two-handle boxing trophy has “Trophee Alp. Couture & Cie. – Hull, Combat du Siecle, 19 aout 1951” engraved on the front. “Wm. A. Rogers E.P.B.M.” and “Lead Mts” appear under the base along with a “1305” stamp. The trophy has numerous dents and dings all over, including the lip and the base.
