Fantastic keepsakes from the Jean Beliveau-led 1951-52 QSHL Quebec Aces championship season are Joe Crozier’s Quebec Aces Alexander Cup championship 10-karat gold ring and his CAHA Alexander Cup championship medal. “Quebec Aces” and the team’s familiar four-aces card logo is displayed on the tableau of the ring, which weighs approximately nine (9) grams. "Birks 10K" is stamped inside the size 10 band that has "Winners Alexander Trophy 1951-52" engraved in script. “Quebec Aces 1952 Joe Crozier” is engraved on the back of the medal, which measures 1 1/2" x 1 1/8”. Recently obtained from the son of Joe Crozier, these two historic pieces come with a copy of the letter of provenance.
The Aces won the Alexander Cup in 1952 after defeating the Saint John Beavers of the semi-professional Maritime Major Hockey League 4-1 in a best-of-seven final.
The letter of provenance states that Crozier’s son obtained these two items from his mother, Joe Crozier’s wife, Marjorie Crozier.
Crozier’s 1951-52 Quebec Aces Alexander Cup championship ring retains still-sharp details on the tableau despite obvious proud wear that includes numerous scratches and scuffs to the band.
Crozier’s 1951-52 Quebec Aces championship medal features “Alexander Cup” on a blue enamel banner across the top above the image of a hockey player, with “CAHA” on a dark red enamel banner at the bottom. "Trophy Craft Gold Filled" is stamped on the back.
Crozier described as "unbelievable" his first two years in Quebec City. The 1951-52 and '52-53 seasons were the years that Jean Beliveau stayed in Quebec to play senior hockey with the Aces, before finally joining the Montreal Canadiens. Whether it was playing before packed houses at the Colisée and other arenas around the league or simply walking down the street with his friend Beliveau, Crozier rates the time as very special indeed. The Beliveau-led Aces were a force in '51-52 and with a supporting cast that included the likes of Herbie Carnegie, Ludger Tremblay, Jackie Leclair, Marcel Bonin and Armand Gaudreault up front, Crozier and Phil Renaud on defence and Jean Marois in goal, Quebec won the QSHL championship before going on to claim the Alexander Trophy as the best in Canada.
