Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Fall 2018
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 11/6/2018
Extremely popular and rarely offered in quantity, Cowan Tiles – as referred to by collectors – are 6” x 6” ceramic affairs reportedly meant to be sold at NHL arenas originally, but speculation is that licensing issues led to them never being released to the public, and despite most apparently being destroyed, a fairly large number have survived. Over 100 different players exist, with “SCREENART PRODUCTS LTD. – Made in Canada” appearing on the cork backing of each. We have a collection of 18 examples, with each in its original box. Featuring three of the Original Six clubs with the Rangers, Canadiens and Bruins, we have tiles for HOFers Moore, Geoffrion, Johnson, Ratelle and Harry Howell, along with Burns, Rousseau, Berenson, Backstrom, Cahan, Langlois, Hebenton, Horvath, Hampson, Ingarfield, Balon and Muzz Patrick (2).
Each tile remains in wonderful near-mint condition, with the each box (except one) having the player’s name handwritten in marker, with some of the boxes stained or lightly damaged.
