Now a member of the Toronto Maple Leafs, John Tavares broke the all-time career-goals record in the OHL in 2008-09 while with the London Nights. We have a pair of skates that were worn that very season by the superstar, with these particular signed examples all the more special as they were also worn in the gold medal-winning 2009 World Junior Championships - a tournament that Tavares finished second in scoring. Amazingly, they have also been photo-matched to both the 2008-09 season with the Knights, and to the 2009 gold medal game! CCM custom models with “Tavares 91” graphics and identifiers, stickers along the underside have “John Tavares” along with sizing, with the Reebok/CCM skate blades changed at some point as they show less wear, with different blades visible in the photo-matches. Each skate also has handwritten “1” over the blade holder, with a “Tavares” hologram over the left skate.
Showing heavy wear, each skate exhibits numerous scuffs, scratches and marks, with a few tears to the fabric, including along the outside edge of the left skate boot. The blade holders also exhibit thorough use, with puck marks, cuts and abrasions. John has signed each skate along the right side in blue marker adding his number, with both autographs displaying well. Getty Image #84159578 from Dec 31st 2008 (Team Canada vs Team USA) has been matched to the chip on top of the "U" logo on the inside portion of the left skate, while Getty Image #84151350, also from Dec 31st, has been matched to the washed-out long black mark on the exterior of the skate starting at the CCM logo and going towards the back of the skate for about 2 inches. Next, Getty Image #84282451 from Jan 3rd 2009 (Team Canada vs Russia semifinals) has been matched to the rip in the material below the CCM logo on the outside of the left skate, and to the rip/cut on top of the 91 on the back of the skate. From John’s time with the Knights, Getty Image #84256551 from Jan 11th 2009 (vs. Mississauga) has been matched to; left skate - to the rip/cut on top of the 91 on the back of the skate and to the rip in the material below the CCM logo on the outside of the left skate. Right skate - to the rip on the interior between the 4th and 5th rivet. Finally, Getty Image #84296591 (Jan 5th 2009 Team Canada vs Sweden gold medal game) along with images #84256718, #84256506, #84256813 and #84256503 (January 11th 2009 vs. Mississauga) have all been matched to the rip/cut on top of the 91 on the back of the right skate.
