Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction June 2018
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 6/19/2018
A day that will live in infamy to Canadians – especially those in Edmonton – the Wayne Gretzky trade in the summer of 1988 that saw the superstar dealt to sunny California seemed like a death knell for hockey. Thirty years later, the trade can be positively viewed as the catalyst to the expansion of the NHL in the US. We have a pair of signed Gretzky items, including a Los Angeles Kings captain’s jersey, along with a copy of Wayne’s “Gretzky” hardcover book. The Kings jersey has CCM “L” labeling along the collar (size 48), with tackle twill team crest and numbers, along with “Gretzky” across the nameplate in matching material. Wayne has signed just beneath the team crest in black marker, and the signature is flawless. The 1984 book feature’s an intact dust jacket (edge tears and toning), with Wayne signing over the title page in ballpoint with a large and flowing signature, adding “To Karen Merry Xmas”. An LOA from JSA will accompany for the signature on the jersey.
