Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction June 2018

Forty-two times folks – yes, 42 “bricks” of 1979-80 O-Pee-Chee sets minus the Wayne Gretzky rookie card are on the auction block this time around. From a blue border aficionado to some entrepreneurial hobbyist this mini mountain will go. As for the condition, in general, it is all over the board. The original “assembler” pulled the more important cards from each 395-card grouping and then sealed up the rest, hence the “brick” reference. By examining several of the “better card” groups, we discover some nice NM-or-better examples but also everything from P-F-G to VG to EX to EX-MT and so on and so forth. Some of the checklists and team checklists, the latter led by the Oilers logo which carries some weight/book value, are marked while others are unmarked. Other key/notable cards include those of icons Gordie Howe and Bobby Hull, at the end of their legendary careers, and Mike Bossy’s second-year card. The rookie card lineup includes the first OPC cardboard appearances of John Tonelli, Bobby Smith, Charlie Simmer, Ken Linseman, Barry Melrose, Dave Semenko, Glen Hanlon, Don Maloney and others – how do you feel about 42 of each?! In summary, this is one humongous grab bag that offers oodles of possibilities and opportunities – numerous Gretzky rookie card owners wouldn’t mind acquiring the rest of the set if they haven’t already done so - and one that will have the new owner sifting/sorting for a substantial period of time.
