Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction June 2018
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 6/19/2018
Created by the Perini Corporation to celebrate the Milwaukee Braves 1957 World Series Championship and our second such offering, this lot contains 25 player glasses that were created as gifts for Perini executives and others, along with a pair of highly attractive 1957 Braves World Champions tie bar pendants. These rare glasses originate from the Canadian President of Perini, who also served as a director of the Milwaukee Braves baseball club. Produced in two sizes, each glass features the Braves logo with “1957 World Champs”, along with the portrait of a specific player. With just a single duplicate present, highlights include examples of Hank Aaron, Ed Mathews, Warren Spahn, Andy Pafko, Red Schoendienst and others.
A near-complete set, glasses are present in two different sizes, with the taller examples just over 5 ½” in height with a rim circumference of roughly 2 ¾”, while the smaller examples are just under 4 ½”, with the rim’s just over 3 ½” across. Aaron, Jones, Mathews, Covington, Logan, Bruton, Schoendienst, Hazle, Pafko, Adcock, Roach, DeMerit and Mantilla appear in the larger size, with Spahn, McMahon (2), Phillips, Jolly, Johnson, Trowbridge, Sawatski, Buhl, Rice, Conley and manager Fred Haney present in the smaller size. Condition varies, with some of the glasses exhibiting moderate wear to the graphics and rims, with the Spahn (heavily faded graphics), Jolly and Sawatski glasses having chips to the rims. The Aaron glass remains in gorgeous condition, with just light wear. The tie bar pendants include an example marked 10K LGB on the reverse, with the other marked LGB along with something illegible. Absolutely gorgeous, the 10K tie bar pendant features a Braves logo with “1957” in burgundy enamel along with the Braves “feather” finished in white, with the second tie bar pendant a larger Braves Indian head logo with matching enamel “1957” and white feather. Each tie bar is also marked, with just light overall wear, mainly to the reverse of each.
