Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Fall 2018
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 11/6/2018
Purchased by Major League Baseball prior to the 2002 season after the club failed to secure funding for a new ballpark, the Montreal Expos would only compete in two additional seasons, with the beloved club relocating to Washington for the 2005 campaign. Hailing from happier days in franchise history, we have a vintage Expos jersey from the 1977 MLB season that we’ve attributed to being issued to pitcher Wayne Twitchell. A Rawlings label with “46” sizing remains affixed to the collar, with a set and year fly tag near the bottom front inside hem (Set 1 – 1977). Styled with a red, white and blue Expos team crest fully administered in tackle twill and situated over the left breast, “Expos” has been affixed beneath in individual single blue twill letters, with “33” over the left and verso in matching material. A few stains are visible on the jersey, including near the front number, over the left shoulder and midway down the back, with no actual visible game use. Acquired by the Expos in a trade with the Phillies on June 15th 1977, Twitchell wore #33 for the Expos in both 1977 and 1978.
