Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Fall 2017
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 11/7/2017
A gold miner, saloon owner, gambler and boxing promoter – he was even a friend to the infamous Wyatt Earp. There weren’t many hooks Tex Rickard couldn’t hang his hat on. The Kansas City native was also granted a hockey franchise in 1926 that would be named “Tex’s Rangers” in his honour, with the Rangers name still in use to this very day. We have a scarce original Lucky Strike cigarette advertising sign featuring the showman, and it hails from the 1920s. At 13” x 18” (exposed), Rickard is pictured in full colour, with the tag line “World Famous Sports Promoter”. A pack of Lucky Strikes has been faithfully reproduced, with the company’s famous slogan along the base of “It’s Toasted”. Double-matted and framed to full dimensions of 22” x 26”, with a few creases, edge tears and a small hole present.
