Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Fall 2017
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 11/7/2017
The first example we have ever handled, we have a Tommy Lockhart typed and signed letter on MSG Corporation letterhead. Lockhart had many labels and titles throughout his lifelong affiliation with hockey including vice-president of the Metropolitan Amateur Hockey League, president of the Amateur Hockey Association of the United States and the founder of the Eastern Amateur Hockey League. The NYC native was also the business manager of the NY Rangers for a number of years. At 8 ½” x 11”, the April 4th 1947 letter is a response to a request for a tryout with the Rangers, with Lockhart signing in dark blue ink, with just minor fading to the signature. Elected to the HOF in 1965 as a “Builder”, we should again mention that this is the only known signed document from Lockhart, with just a second confirmed signature.
A pair of expected horizontal fold lines are present, along with minor wrinkling. There is also toning to the off-white document, especially on the reverse. A sticker from JSA numbered “R86879” has been affixed to the reverse, with a matching Basic Certification to accompany.
