Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Fall 2017
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 11/7/2017
The first occasion the event featured four competing teams, the 1983 Memorial Cup featured a Portland vs Oshawa final, with the host Winter Hawks easily defeating the Generals 8-3 for their first CHL championship. Hailing from the collection of longtime CHL and WHL president Ed Chynoweth and consigned by his direct family, we have a 1983 Portland Winter Hawks Memorial Cup champions 10K gold ring that was presented to the important hockey administrator. Size 8 with a weight of 13.8 grams, “Coupe Memorial Cup” appears across the face with laurel wreath below featuring five .05 ct brilliant cut inset diamonds, along with “Portland 1983”. The inner band is stamped “10K” and “Jostens” along with a hallmark. Comes with an LOA from the family.
Light wear is present along the band, with some minor expected scratches and just minimal wear across the face. Chynoweth served as the president of the WHL from 1972-95 and president of the CHL from 1975-95. Passing from cancer in 2008, the WHL renamed its championship trophy the Ed Chynoweth Cup in his honour. Chynoweth was posthumously elected to the HOF as a builder late in 2008.
