Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Fall 2017
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 11/7/2017
Awesome 1988-89 Winnipeg Jets gamer was worn by veteran forward Dave Hunter. After winning the Stanley Cup three times with Wayne Gretzky and the Edmonton Oilers, Hunter was traded with Paul Coffey to Mario Lemieux’s Pittsburgh Penguins. Poised to return to Edmonton as compensation after the Pittsburgh claimed Dave Hannan from the Oilers in the waiver draft on October 3, 1988, Hunter was instead claimed by Winnipeg. There is evidence of a former nameplate on Hunter’s Jets No. 12 gamer, which has the "Goals for Kids" patch sewn on the right shoulder and the CCM logo embroidered on the right rear hem. Solid game wear includes black marks on the front tail and the “2” on the back.
Maska flag tag remains in the back of the neck and more game wear includes board burns with green paint transfer on each sleeve, black marks on the sleeves and left rear tail, light stains on the left shoulder yoke adjacent to the collar, and light reddish-brown stains and faint black marks on the right shoulder yoke adjacent to the collar.
Hunter played 34 games for the Jets in 1988-89 before he was claimed by Edmonton on waivers on January 14, 1989.
