Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction June 2017
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 6/21/2017
Any and all early hockey contracts featuring prominent teams are nearly impossible to find, but for those collectors looking for rare hockey ephemera, this is your lucky day. We have a 1922-23 WCHL Calgary Tigers contract for Jack Arbour, and it’s been signed by Arbour, club president Fred Johnson and possibly HOF builder Lloyd Turner. At 8 ½” x 14”, the single page document calls for Arbour to earn a whopping $50.00 per week (just under $700.00 in 2017 dollars) during the playing season, with a stipulation that any “lost time” traveling to either Saskatoon or Regina will be paid, without the same stipulation for trips to Edmonton. Unlikely to ever see another comparable example surface, this rare contract would display exceptionally with a period Tigers team photo.
Each signature has been scripted in period fountain pen, with the contract itself exhibiting fold lines along with some minor toning and creasing, with a pair of holes punched along the top from prior binder insertion.
